Small pocket size SSD. Looks tough, but I haven’t dropped it (yet)
I’ve had this Samsung 2TB solid state drive for two weeks and so far I like it. I’ll update this review after I’ve used it longer. I’m using this SSD with my HP laptop and my iPhone 16 for my daily work with video files and haven’t had any problems. I purchased it for $184, which is a lot more than an 2TB old-fashioned spinning drive, but worth it if it delivers on all those solid state promises of being more rugged and lasting longer.Arrival: It arrived properly packaged and formatted and ready to use. I just plugged it in and it worked! Came with two 18 inch cables (USB-C to USB-A and USB-C to USB-C).Form factor: It’s smaller than expected and light at 3.5 x 2.25 inches and only 1/2 inch thick (see pics). It’s easy to transport in my pocket… even my front shirt pocket (just don’t bend over or you’ll be testing it’s ruggedness). It has a rubber sleeve around it which should provide better protection when dropped (which I do a lot). It looks and feels rugged, but time will tell. Why did I buy it: Until now I have always used a spinning external hard disk drives and I’ve have had a few of them fail. I’m trying this solid state drive to see if it lasts longer. I’m pretty rough on external drives, using them daily, traveling with them, throwing them in my suitcase, dropping them, etc. If this works out I may use solid state drives for my daily use and use the old-timey spinning disks only for long-term storage (the digital equivalent of putting grandpa in a comfy chair by the fire). I’ve used Western Digital spinning hard disk drives until now and they have been… let’s just say, loyal until they weren’t. But hey — maybe it’s not them. Maybe it’s me. …(or maybe it’s Maybelline).

    Fast and reliable USB drive
Fast and reliable USB drive. I will only purchase SSD drives now rather than a traditional spinning platter drive. As a video editor, the drive capacity and read speed is critical. I have a few of these now in different size capacities and these Samsung T7 drives are my preferred external drives for a few reasons.First, they’re SSD drives so the possibility to go bad in contrast to a spinning platter drive is very slim. I have lost a few traditional drives over the years and once is enough. I have not had an SSD drive fail yet.Second, these Samsungs are fast. I am able to edit high bit rate, 4k media directly from these USB-C drives without having to bog down my internal drives with the footage files. The read speed is quick enough to not be a concern while editing directly from the drives. I’ve not been concerned with write speed but the benchmark tests are still high. They do not get hot like the traditional drives do.Form factor: tiny and easy to transport! I have 1TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB drives. Three of these together are still smaller than a traditional rugged external drive AND with no moving parts, I don’t need to be concerned with careful packing and accidental shock. They arrive formatted as exfat so very easy to use with either mac or PC. They’re affordable too. Every time a cheap client or agency provides me footage on a slow, sub-standard platter drive, I transfer it all to one of these Samsungs asap.

2+ years on MacBook Air M2
I love these. I actually have 2 of them. The blue one my partner got me which I used to move all my info from various F drives and keep plugged into my MacBook Air M2 for the last 2 and half years, and the black one I bought shortly after and have been using for Time Machine. I’ll admit I’m not a heavy computer user but so far they’ve both worked flawlessly. The blue version I’ve even used for playing movies and the sims 4 with no issue.

Fast enough for storing family pictures
Works like a charm. My wife loved it

  6. Rawrr

    Mostly love it!
Works pretty great aside from the cable it comes with! The cable fits too loosely, so if you end up having speed or connection issues it’s likely related to the stupid usb to c cable (easily replaceable with one you probably already have laying around).I’ve used it for nearly a yr now with zero issues (haven’t even replaced the cable yet). I mostly used it to transfer and store my gigantic audio/music library which takes up more than half the space (so glad I bought the 4TB size!!!!).I really love how I don’t have to worry about this SSD suddenly ejecting or quitting on me (or getting super hot) when transferring large amounts of data (sometimes from very old usb drives that take forever). It’s also never given me issues when I’ve forgotten to eject it before shutting everything down or when I accidentally unplugged it without ejecting etc. It’s very sturdy and reliable. One thing I definitely notice is that, from what I remember, this drive was released in 2020 but the price is nearly the same now as when I bought it last yr. I remember waiting forever for the price to go down before I bought but it just never did (barely even budged during Black Friday!). Unless you can find some deals elsewhere (which you might?) maybe don’t hold your breath for a sale.

I’ve been using the Samsung T7 Shield for a little while now, and it has exceeded my expectations in several ways.• Size & Portability: The first thing that surprised me was how compact it is. It easily fits in a pocket or small bag, making it great for travel or everyday carry.• Performance: Transfer speeds are excellent. Copying large video files and project folders was noticeably faster compared to my older external drives. The advertised speeds of over 1,000 MB/s feel accurate in real-world use, especially when connected via USB-C.• Durability: The rubberized design feels very solid and resistant. It doesn’t feel fragile at all, and it gives peace of mind when carrying it around. I haven’t drop-tested it, but it clearly seems built to withstand bumps and daily use.• Compatibility: I tested it on both Windows and macOS, and it worked right away with no setup hassle. It’s also handy that it’s compatible with Android for quick mobile storage.Possible Consideration: To get the best speeds, you’ll want to use it with a USB-C connection. Using older USB-A ports still works, but it will be slower.Overall, this SSD combines speed, portability, and durability in a very sleek package. If you need reliable storage for work, travel, or backups, this is an excellent choice.
