Affordable and reliable
Casual home user/homeschooling projects. We had a black and white printer but just needed the option for color for certain projects. This works well, prints good enough quality for our use. Wireless connection works without problems. It seems to take a little bit to fire up and get going when first printing but overall the print speed is acceptable and does not affect my opinion. Haven’t tried generic cartridges yet as the starter cartridges are still going well.
It stops working after a few months and customer service is awful.
***Update after several months with a new reason this printer is the worst thing ever…. it counts pages, not toner. When the printer “thinks” the toner is empty, it just stops printing. There is no way to reset the page counts (unlike in previous Brother printers). There is no way to bypass this. You can’t just print in black and white when a color cartidge is out. It just stops. There is no printing until you install a new cartridge. So, make sure you have plenty on hand because this sucker will stop and there’s nothing you can do about it. If you are mid-big presentation or report? Too bad. Stop and go to the store because this printer won’t budge. These toner cartridges have “chips” on them now in order to prevent you from reseting the page count. And get this: it counts pages if you aren’t printing in black and white! You can lift it out and feel how heavy it is and know there is plenty of toner in there but – nope! You printed too many pages so now your printer won’t let you do anything. All to make you have to spend a gazillion dollars on new toner cartridges even though you probably have months left of toner. Ridiculous. This is the worst product I have ever purchased. Avoid, avoid, avoid.I should have listened to the reviews. This printer stopped working after 7 months. Never was able to get the bluetooth stuff to work. Two days ago I got an error message saying I had installed a “non-genuine toner cartridge” when I had not changed anything or touched any toner since receiving it. It was still the original toner it came with. It wouldn’t let me move past the error message to continue printing (unless I wanted to “void my warranty,” which I was not going to do since it was already having issues). Off to customer service I go! The first attempt with customer service resulted in a disconnection (the agent just stopped responding… good times). He said I could just click “no” and keep right on printing, but the video shows that was not the case. After that he just disappeared and didn’t respond anymore so I had to start a new chat with another agent. The next agent at least tried, but took an hour, had me disassembling the dang thing, and didn’t solve any problems. They are sending me a new cyan cartridge, but I’m not feeling confident. I still can’t print and am still seeing an error message. Just really, really bad. Don’t buy it.
Best and most reliable
Best printers. I have had Canon, HP, and others, and this is the best one. I bought this to replace an 8 year old Brother Laser color MFC that finally wore out.
So far so good. Hope it last for years in the office like its predecessor
So far so good, 3 months in. Set up was easy on multiple computers and both B&W and color printing looks nice, though we do not print photos. Scanning requires a hard line to my computer. If it can be done any other way, no one in the office has figured it out, so we just walk over and plug in out laptops when scanning is needed. The printer has a tiny footprint compared to its predecessor (a Brother 9330) and takes up far less table space. We are happy.
Easy setup
I have always used Epson and that old printer that used ink jet cartridges is the worst. I waste ink cleaning the printer head every single time before I print the actual documents I need, otherwise it would print with gaps or misaligned texts. This is my first Brother device.PROs: Setup was easy. Works on both proprietary and open source OS. My PC uses Linux Mint and I added it from network, and Linux has a native scanner application that picked it up without a problem. I also added it to my Windows-based laptop from network as well. Just like Linux, Windows 11, in this case, has a native fax and scanner application and it also detected the device right away.I did a quick test print after and it spit out super fast. The size is just right for what I was looking for. It fit the table where my old printer was.CONs: Nothing for now. Here’s hoping this one will not give me the same issues that my old printer did. Also hoping the toner cartridge will last longer than the ink jets.
Super easy to connect and print…
Amazingly easy printer to set up.I’m a geek so it was easy for me.But compared to my HP Office jet it was a breeze.I highly recommend it.Lazer printers are a lot better for you anyway. It prints, copy and scans like a champ its big and heavy, but well made!.I may get rid of my HP Printers, they are a pain in the neck to set up!
Great unit and I’m definitely a convert from HP to Brother now. Difference between next model up and thus one is this unit does not support duplex scanning (2 sided scanning) and does 19 pages per min compared to the 31 pages the next model up does for $299 more. Good buy for $499.
This is a great machine. One thing – and it may be on my end and not a fault of the printer, but it seems to take a long time to process print jobs – so I will make some adjustments and watch that. Otherwise, this is a great All-in-one. Install was sensible and really easy to get through. And I Luv that you can get lower cost off-brand (aka compatible) toner for it quite easily.
I purchased this printer to replace two old tired monochrome laser printers built by “another company”. I have sporadic printing needs, including colour, and have found that ink jets tend to have problems when they aren’t used regularly. My work computers run Ubuntu Linux and getting the printer up and running with them was simple, including both printing and scanning. The Brother drivers that are automatically loaded in Ubuntu 24.04 (latest version) work without a hitch. No problems with the wifi connection either.I really appreciate the printer managing its firmware updates on its own, so that I don’t have to hunt them down – the control panel just indicates when an update is ready to install. The print quality seems great. I haven’t tried printing on glossy paper, but certainly the plain paper quality is more than fine. The sheet feeder on the document scanner works without a hitch. In sum, I’m super happy to have made the decision to acquire this printer. Highly recommended, and I would buy another.
Great all in one machine! I use the scanner/printer functions the most and they’re great! Wi-Fi setup was a breeze – the first and only time I’ve been able to say that about a printer!

Great buy!
Very nice. Works perfectly. Easy to use. Large capacity toner seems expensive, but consider the amount of printing you get out of them.
