    Best around
This kwikset model is excellent. I bought this over a 1-1/2 years ago. has worked flawlessly, battery life is excellent when you use good quality batteries. the four AA batteries have lasted a year that is because I forgot to change them. Usually, I changed batteries every six months. The key duplication is very easy to use and works on all kwikset keys. The keypad is also good quality that responds well to touch. Colors are easy to match for new door handles. Installation was quick and easy. I recommend this. It’s fantastic.

A High-Quality Secure Lock With Bad Written but Good YouTube Installation [except…]
Overall, a real value for the buck. Easy to install. I did three. It took 15-20 minutes for the first one—mostly reading instructions and watching KwickSet’s Iinstall video over coffee—and around 5 minutes for the others. Good looking, at once updating my 1920s bungalow while blending into the vintage esthetic. Smooth operation. And secure.Five stars, but I’m tempted to shave-off a star for poor instructions regarding re-handing a lock. See below for details.Re: security. Most equivalently-priced deadbolts at my hardware and big-box stores were less secure, rated as ANSI level. These Kwickset SmartCode 260 locks are locksmith-worthy ANSI level 2 locks. Finding Level 2 locks in the big-box was a bit of a joke, though, since no worker had a clue. Though I found a Schlange whose packaging declared “Level 2” for $200. My local hardware store was more helpful and had a similar level 2… but on sale for $130 ($170 regular price).* INSTALL NOTE. Watch Kwickset’s YouTube install video. It takes but a minute since the written instructions were tough to follow with printing too small for my late-50’s eyes.HOWEVER… There is no description of re-handing the lock if you need to, be try not to power-up the lock before it is installed since it automatically determines hand. And changing hands it NOT discussed.I learned this the hard way with my third and final install. The last lock was the one I’d been messing around with as I followed the install video, resetting entry codes, etc. with batteries in. I installed it physically without a hitch, but it was electronically wrong-handed, meaning that hitting “lock” unlocked it.Since the other two I’d installed earlier handed themselves automatically, I was at a loss. Since re-handing was not covered in the manual or videos for this model, I thought I had a defective unit. I called, but Kwikset was closed for Thanksgiving. Not one to give up I installed and re-installed it four times, following along with the YouTube install video for the final two. The result was always the same.So my initial five-minute install grew to over 90 minutes.Frustrating! And then, after giving up and re-installing the old deadbolt, I noticed “reset” and “change hand” codes in fine print, hidden in a chart showing “How To Program The Lock” while eating dinner. So after dishes, I took out the old manual bolt… AGAIN!… reinstalled the final electronic deadbolt… FOR THE FIFTH TIME!… and entered the “factory reset” code. And Finally, the thing worked, automatically handing itself when I entered the set-up sequence.A lot of frustration could have been avoided if handing had been covered since I know I’m not the only person this is going to happen to.Still, since this was my fault, I’m not taking off on the review since I’m well aware that I’m a sort of “Ready…. Fire…. Aim” sort of guy.

    Auto lock
    Easy install works great

  5. Gregory Anderson

    Easy to install.
Easy installation and programming. Occasionally will not want to lock/unlock but that is due to humidity making the wood frame swell not an issue with the lock itself. I did not want a lock that connected to the Internet but still wanted the “smart” lock of not having to haggle with keys all the time. But I still have the keyed option in case the battery dies or I need it. And I was able to replace all my door locks and update to a single key which was great not having three keys or going to a locksmith.

Kwikset SmartCode 260 easy to install and easy DIY self key to existing locks.
So far so good. Quality seems very good, install went easy (if you’ve installed dead bolts before much easier). Programming easy, night lighting a plus! But the best thin was being able to key it to a existing Kwikset key in a few seconds was fantastic.

    Great lock.
Was easy to install and set up. At a point we lost internet and I could not get it hooked back up, so I called Kwikset customer support and they helped and I was back up in 5 minutes. We love not having to carry a key.

Noisy!! Electronic Malfunctions/keep key accessible. Manual deadbolt very good
Pros: easy to install (level 1 out of 3). Easy to program (level 1.5 out of 3). Note: I have experience installing things like this over many years while maintaining home/doing diy projects. For a novice, it might be slightly more time consuming to get it done but still not much more difficult than my (subjective) rating. Quality build, has some heft to it, looks good, deadbolt throw action is smooth. Reversing the throw direction was okay. Indoor profile height is nicely compact at 5.25”h x 2.75”w compared to some similar locks that are 7” h which was too tall for this application. Parts of instruction booklet quite good.Cons: Noise! This lock is noisy for both lock/unlock door: input code, then hear LOUD zzzsissiiiip zsip zsip zsip zsip zzzssiiiip beebeep. Yes, 6 times EVERY time it’s locked/unlocked.It is FINICKY: warning to all, don’t ever leave without having manual key accessible because this lock gets “confused” on the regular. I end up going through the procedure below (even if door was Not left open) where I have to open door, manually throw deadbolt, input code, deadbolt retracts, close door, press lock button.Lately it is also “confused” after it’s been successfully closed and locked. I return home, input code to unlock and instead of green light, it’s giving red light despite having thrown deadbolt open. It is NOT the batteries—I replaced with brand new; malfunctions still occur. Tested batteries and they are fine, put batteries back in this kwikset lock, and still lock malfunctions. I reset the lock. It works well for maybe one day, then the same shenanigans.A major point with this type of lock is to NOT have to carry keys after leaving house—it fails at this and I am glad I have always stuck with my own rule of only having electronic lock that ALSO has manual key—because I sure have needed to use it multiple times to gain entry. I have a different brand of similar type of lock elsewhere and (knock on wood) have NEVER had to use manual key in 5 years of daily use.Finicky 2: Cannot leave unlocked door open for a slightly extended length of time as it will NOT lock when press lock button after closing the door. (think: leaving open while bringing in groceries or leaving open because it’s warm and you have a screen door). The ONLY way it will resume proper function is to manually throw deadbolt while door open, input code so lock will retract deadbolt, THEN close door and press lock button. Sometimes have to rinse and repeat until lock is no longer “confused.” It is maddening to have to do this dance. I gave 2 stars because it is still functioning, problems notwithstanding, after 2 months of use and because the physical build is good—the electronic part needs significant improvement by kwikset.Lastly, lock has No battery life indicator (I knew this and purchased anyway, so did not factor this in number of stars. With all the mechanical noise, beeps, and different color flashing lights you would think a low battery indicator would be among the features but I digress).

    Work smoothly and perfectly

Funciona muy bien, se instala fácil y aunque no ofrece algunas funcionalidades, es suficiente por el precio.
