10 reviews for DJI Mini 3 Fly More Combo (DJI RC), Drones with Camera for Adults 4K, 3 Batteries for 114-min Flight Time, Vertical Shooting, 32800ft (10km) Video Transmission, Lightweight Mini Drone for Beginners
Tons Of Fun, Great Video And Photos
After being drone-curious for a decade, this was my first drone purchase. The Mini 3 is a lot of fun to fly and the video and photo quality is excellent, even in lower light in the evening. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the Mini 3 is to fly, which is true of probably every DJI mini drone. Installing the DJI Fly app wasn’t difficult and it wasn’t too invasive. I wish the DJI Mimo app to register their action cameras was as pleasant an experience. The 38 minute flight time is excellent for a 249 gram no-license mini drone. I fly 25-30 minutes and land as soon as the app starts telling me that the battery is getting low, both to avoid drama trying to limp home against a headwind with only a few electrons remaining in the battery, and to avoid deep cycle discharging the battery and reducing its life span. The battery is so intelligent it actually has its own firmware and the smart battery controller will do everything it can to protect the battery, up to but not including endangering the drone. The drone will always try to make it back and it’ll fry a battery if needed, as it should. Don’t deep discharge the battery and it should be good for hundreds of flights, even though drone flight is a high discharge activity that inherently isn’t good for batteries. The Mini 3 doesn’t have obstacle avoidance but that’s mostly useful for following a person and the visual follow modes don’t work all that well so I prefer to do the obstacle avoidance and tracking manually, and not having obstacle avoidance makes the batteries last longer. There are a few reasonably priced after market apps that extend the features of the drone. I use Maven EVO and it allows me to program waypoints, either by flying to them or by programming them on a map, and then fly the mission. It’s a great way to have the drone fly itself and video me while I ride my motorcycle, or precisely fly a programmed course to video a particular scene, such as a coastline, river or cliff. There are also a few co-pilot features that automate some of the flying, or constrain the drone’s motion (example: along a line) while allowing the remote control to do much simpler flying along the path. All of these features allow some up front setup time to be traded for a precise and safe flight path.I love how small and lightweight the Mini 3 is. That makes it easy to bring along on ultralight motorcycle camping adventures, while allowing me to get some dramatic aerial video and photography so my shared adventures are more compelling. The most challenging aspect of drone flying has been getting my old eyes to see my phone or tablet when flying on a sunny day. You may want to upgrade from the RC-N! controller that uses the DJI Fly app on your connected phone, to the RC-2 controller with the built-in screen, not to use the screen, but to have video out that can be fed into heads up glasses so the flight software is inside sunglasses but you retain situational awareness you wouldn’t have with FPV goggles. This would be at least a few hundred dollars for this upgrade but may be worthwhile for some people.
Best Tool ever!
30-year-old roofing contractor here. Bought the Mini 3 Fly More Combo six months ago to ditch the ladder on quick bids. At 249g, no FAA registration, folds to pocket size, ready to fly in 90 seconds.Work: 4K/30 HDR is sharp enough for insurance reports; 34-min batteries cover 3–4 roofs per charge. 10 km range is overkill—I fly 50–100 ft up, spot hail dents, clogged gutters, flashings in seconds. QuickShots for smooth orbit clips clients love. Saved me hours of climbing; paid for itself in week one.Fun: Weekends, I chase sunsets or film bike trails. Wind-resistant, return-to-home is bulletproof.Only gripe: No obstacle avoidance—fly smart. Extra batteries are a must.Best tool I’ve bought in years.
Mini 3 and DJI-RC2, the perfect team.
An absolute must-have in your arsenal whether you are a photographer, drone hobbyist, or even just a beginner in either category. The DJI-RC2 is also the way to go between the two different styles of remote controllers. The DJI-RC2 replaces having to strap in your cell phone or tablet to the remote controller. Let me just tell you, from someone who had used every kind of remote for DJI products, this one is blows the others away, for using with the Mini 3. You won’t regret spending the little extra for the bundle with the remote controller with the built in screen. Trust me. You can thank me later for the suggestion. Anyways, 5 stars to the Mini 3 and DJI-RC2 controller.
Great Little Drone with Awesome Camera Quality!
The DJI Mini 3 Fly More Combo is a great purchase! It’s super compact and easy to carry around, which makes it perfect for travel or casual flying. The battery life isn’t quite as long as advertised, but it’s still pretty close and gives plenty of flight time. The range is impressive, and it’s a lot of fun to fly — very stable and responsive. The camera quality is excellent, with sharp resolution and vibrant colors, and the screen looks fantastic too. Overall, it’s a really solid drone for its size and price. Highly recommend for beginners or anyone who wants a reliable, fun drone experience!
The Controller&Screen with Extra batteries ought to be the default kit.
Disclaimer: I also own a DJI Mavic ProAfter recently seeing a user flying a Mini3 with a DJI controller/with screen I just HAD TO investigate and get one. IMHO: the all-in-one controller is a ‘game changer’ as no longer have THREE items to charge (drone, controller, cell phone). The controllers battery life is ~3Hrs so I could fly with all three included batteries and the controller would still be functional.Speaking of charging, I like that the ‘fly more kit’ came with a 3 battery bay which only requires a USBC input. The flight controller is also simply a USBC input for charging. While the Mini3 does have up to 4K 30 FPS video, the included controller is only 1080P. 🙂 However the screen is large & bright enough to see in everything but direct sunlight. Many might opt for the “Pro” version for the obstacle detection/avoidance and/or added features the “Pro” version has. However I find that while navigating my yard with my Mavic Pro I find its obstacle detection annoying at best and while the Mini3 is smaller, I was able to safely and more enjoyably fly the Mini3 on the same course as my Mavic Pro. (the Mavic Pro starts complaining about objects 10′ away!!)Sadly I spent what seems like full price on the controller/screen, Mini3 and 3x batteries & charger bay.It is my hope that UNLIKE the Mavic Pro’s batteries, the Mini3 batteries don’t decide on their own that they will NOT take a charge and become worthless and thereby grounding my Mini3 flying!!I marked it off a Star for both the cost of a ‘full kit’ and the lackluster actual flight time on a battery.
The Mini 3 is a fabulous DJI product and infact my preferred travel drone due to the size (I also have a phantom 4 pro). The Mini 3 has no sensors and lacks some of the features of the pro versions but image quality is still amazing and with the ability to shoot vertical content is a bonus.Flight time is crazy just on or over 30mins (like my Phantom 4 Pro) and it fits in my normal camera bag. Set up to flight time is fast and the upgraded remote with included screen allows you to use your phone or other tasks. This is a bonus in itself as the phone screen can be hard to see in sunlight.Perfect in windy conditions, the little drone will get buffeted but holds position well with GPS.Follow-me mode is unavailable as this is entry level, but you do have other modes to utilise. If you’re not the focus but where you are is, then this will not be an issue. The convenience of powerbank charging this is a great DJI product and now one of my faves being on trips overseas x 2 times already.Bag yourself a bargain with the Mini 3 while you can
