I’ve more than DOUBLED my system performance.
I think I won the silicon lottery. At least for me, this CPU runs cool with my 4 heat-pipe dual fan ID cooler (usingARCTIC MX-6 thermal paste) at 4.5 GHz and only rises a few degrees C warmer at 4.7 GHz. I do NOT recommend overclocking to anyone… this is just what I discovered while monitoring the CPU during benchmark testing using default clock settings. This processor was first released at $800+ US, but at $287 I ended up buying two for both my AM4 socket systems. I went from a Ryzen 7 3700x running at 4.35 GHz (8 core, 16 thread) for the past 5 years, to this 16 core 32 thread CPU which boosts to 4.9 GHz. I try to double the performance every five years (the 3700x replaced an Intel Quad Core 8 thread processor running at 4.0 GHz).
Great upgrade for an existing AM4 system, 2 tower air cooling is enough.
It’s a bargain for this much power. A double tower air cooler will keep temps just fine. No need to go water cooling on it. Just have major air circulating with as much coming in as going out. With the Nvidia 5070 it was a big upgrade over the 5600x CPU I was using. I didn’t think the 5600x was throttling it, but it was big time. Several cores on this boost to 5ghz and all hit 4.9ghz with air cooling keeping it 63-65c while gaming, and even under 85c in a stress test. The Thermalright Peerless 120 is all you need for this chip. For Virtual Machines, 7-Zip (which uses all the cores for compression) or Handbrake it’s a significant time saver. For gaming it’s so much smoother and consistent depending on the game. Some are more optimized for multiple cores/threads than others. Either way, your video card will never be held back on this chip. If you have an AM4 system, this will give you 7 more years at least out of it.
Product exactly as advertised, I love mine!
I want to start by saying that these came exactly as advertised, unopened, new in box 5950x processors. I know some people have been saying they received open box and wrong processors and I want to say that I received exactly what I ordered. Now, if you have an AM4 x570 or B550 motherboard, make sure your bios is current and up to date, and you can probably just drop one of these in to upgrade what ever you have in already making them very nice in that regard. I went from a 3600x to 5950x and have seen no power consumption changes that are noticeable, the increased speed has been nice, my motherboard automatically overclocks this processor to 4.6ghz so not maxing it out, but not running at base specs either. I picked up a Corsair Nautilus 360 aRGB cooler for this and it seems to cool just fine, my package temp sits around 51c, which is about where my aging 3600x sat.. I would say dollar for dollar, if you dont absolutely need top of the line and your just looking to upgrade a bit, this processor is a good value for the money.
Multicore Workhorse
Multicore wonder. I had a 5700x3d before this and would gladly trade a few fps for this performance. PC is just more responsive and outside of games I never realized how much I was zipping/unzipping, moving files, uploading/downloading and had multiple applications open and this CPU handles it all. Impressive to use at stock, but dial in the PBO settings and you can easily hit 4.5-4.8ghz Multicore. The current price is great if you’re still on AM4 so grab them while everyone fights over used 5700x3d & 5800x3d chips.
Worth the bread especially for a beginner upgrade
Almost never goes above 5% cpu usage on most games, your gpu will more than likely bottleneck this, but you get exactly what you pay for this gpu is the epitome of throwing money at the “problem” and it working😂
Ryzen 9 5950X Processor
I had two reservations about buying this processor. First, I didn’t think I would see much improvement over the Ryzen 7 3700X. I was wrong, I believe the performance has increased at least 50%. My average boot time is now about 18-20 seconds versus 35-40 seconds with the 3700X. I now run my Webroot program in four minutes 8 seconds max vs. 5-9 minutes. Still other programs have run in half the time of the 3700X. Second, I was worried that my Dark Rock Pro 4 air cooler couldn’t handle this processor. I was wrong again. After removing the Dark Rock Pro 4 cooler and blowing out the dust and cat hair and installing Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Grease on the 5950X, it now runs cooler than the 3700X. With the ambient room temperature of 66 degrees, my idle temps are 23 Celsius (73 F) to 29 Celsius (84 F). When running software, I have not seen temps above 63 Celsius. I am sure temps will increase as summer is coming but I will be happy if I can keep it below 70 Celsius as Thermal Grizzly says the thermal grease is good to 80 Celsius. Don’t believe all the reviews that say you have to have a liquid cooler. I have never been a fan of putting a liquid in my computer. I saw a video review of the 5950X processor with the Dark Rock Pro 4 air cooler installed and then I ordered my 5950X.Now for the bad news.If you have Windows 10 and are upgrading to this processor then it should be a walk in the park provided you have a bios version that supports 5000 series processors. If you have Windows 11 Pro like I have, you will have problems after the install. Windows 11 does not like hardware or bios changes. Their security feature checks everything on startup and when it finds changes it now makes you change your pin. If you don’t have your password that you had when you installed Windows, you are dead in the water. Not only do you have to have your password, Windows 11 requires you to confirm a security key with a second email address requiring you to have another computer to get to that code. I hadn’t used my computer I built in 2010 in over a year. Luckily it booted up and I was able to retrieve my second security code and now it let me change my pin. However, I still have a problem with one website after the new install. It takes me about 5 minutes to log on because my pin number has changed and doesn’t want me to logon to that site.I wanted to get the Ryzen 9 5950X before they are gone. I believe the price will increase shortly due to tariff increases. Get one before it goes up. I missed last year’s Black Friday sale price of $292.00 and I didn’t want to miss this one.

Really Great performance and has been a dream for productivity and gaming. The CPU runs surprisingly cool for how much power is delivered. Originally purchased the 5800x, but always wanted the 5950x. As soon as I could purchase I did and I have had no regrets since. Have the 5800x running in a small itx build and this 5950x running in my main desktop. Temp at idle is in the high 30s to low 40s with Temps under load in the 60s. Paired it with an nzxt kraken z73. Getting great scores in blender and cinebench R23. Really happy with this purchase and would recommend.
Works and it is fast. The only time I saw the cpus maxed out was with shader cache buildup during game first startup and benchmarking. I haven’t even fully used it because I’m using an old b450m motherboard bur so far it has been working very good. Posting after almost a year of purchase and use.
